In a recent blog post, I wrote that community isn’t a static idea; it’s a motion. It’s the daily rhythm of showing up for one another, even when it’s hard. It’s a teacher giving up prep time to support a colleague, a parent volunteering quietly behind the scenes, or a student slowing down to walk beside a friend. Community is the discipline of stepping back into the water—again and again—because that’s where real life happens.
That is what Mirowitz is about. And over the past two weeks, that motion has been on full display: the joyful chaos of Wake Up with Mirowitz, the vibrant energy of Family Literacy Night, our community Jewish Camp & Beyond Fair, and a warm, well-attended Taste of Mirowitz Open House. These moments remind us that community is something we build, sustain, and elevate—together.
My heartfelt thanks go to Andrea Newstead for her incredible producing prowess; to Alex Hoffman, Becky Lerner, Shannon Rohlman, Uchenna Ogu, and Val Toskin; to our current student Aviva Garland and alumni Jenna Wasserman and Ari Maayan; and to our dedicated parent ambassadors Lee’at Bachar, Rebecca Rubin-Schlansky, and Michael Vredenburgh. You embody the spirit of Mirowitz— kavod, simcha, and service.
As we head into the home stretch before Thanksgiving, here are three meaningful ways to plug in during the week ahead:
6th–8th Grade Open House
Wednesday, Nov. 19 | 8:30–10:00 a.m.
Families of 4th–7th graders are invited to experience the transformative learning that defines 6th-8th grade. Meet teachers, talk with current students, and explore how our blend of Jewish values, academic rigor, and experiential learning prepares students to thrive in high school and beyond.
Whether your family is brand new to Mirowitz or discerning next steps, this is your chance to see what our middle years are truly about—leadership, identity, and the joy of learning deeply. As I often say, “Swimming is an individual sport; the meet is a team event.” Our middle school works the same way: personal growth that strengthens the greater good.

Gratitude in Motion
From Family Literacy Night to our student-led Harvey Kornblum Jewish Food Pantry drive, our students are demonstrating what it means to pair compassion with action. As we approach Thanksgiving, let us savor the ordinary miracles—morning greetings, small acts of kindness, and a school that believes belonging is built day by day, together.
B’shalom,
Brian Thomas
Interim Head of School
