Educating “Generation Swipe”

Our students are the first generation to live their entire lives in a digital world. In fact, they are being called “Generation Swipe,” having been born after the iphone and ipad taught humanity to swipe for a new image or page or game on the screen. Unknown

This reality affects the way children work, play, think and communicate…how they find, receive and process information….and how they learn.  At Mirowitz, we understand that our students must be prepared to acquire  new and evolving skills in order to be prepared for a future that looks quite different from today. Unknown-1

Among the many things that set Mirowitz apart is our  commitment to technology integration in the classroom. Technology is not an end unto itself, a gimmick, or a separate academic discipline that happens in a computer lab. Rather, it is used in every classroom to help students connect with ideas, with information, with classmates and teachers, and with communities outside our four walls. It helps them solve problems, complete projects and creatively extend their abilities.

Unknown-2Morah Andrea, our talented technology coordinator, partners with classroom teachers and works directly with students to enhance learning. She recently attended the Midwest Educational Technology Conference, and networks with her colleagues to stay on top of the latest advances in technology integration. She has a few surprises up her sleeve for next year…but first, take a look at some of the ways Mirowitz teachers have integrated technology into the classroom this month.
