The Ball is Rolling!

November 9, 2014

We’ve made sports a priority this year, and the ball is rolling on our Mirowitz Sports Initiative!

Why the emphasis on athletics? Participating in sports reaps enormous benefits for children. Teamwork, gracious sportsmanship and perseverance are skills that lead to success in life. We also know that sports are good for our brains. Research shows that we can actually stimulate brain cell growth through physical activity.  For all these reasons, we applied for a Staenberg Anything Grant to support a Sports Initiative here at Mirowitz, and hired Coach Myra Miller to coordinate it. We kicked off the program with flag football. Much more is in store. We hope you will consider participating in some of the following opportunities: Unknown

Sports Skills Sundays:
Once a month, Mirowitz students of ALL AGES can learn sports skills from local college athletes. Participating students will be divided into 4 groups by age. The St. Louis College of Pharmacy soccer team and coaches will hold the first clinic for our students Sunday, November 23, 1-3 p.m. Sports Skills Sundays are $10 per child. (Scholarship available.) The second Sports Skills Sundayis: December 18

Read, Right & Run Marathon:
If your children participate, they will read 26 books, complete 26 acts of chesed and run 26.2 miles (gradually…over the next few months).
Marathon runners will get together for running practice after school every other week beginning  the week of November 11-14. The cost is $40 per student. (Scholarship available).  Unknown-1

Sports Teams: In addition to Flag Football, we will coach teams for basketball, track and field and floor hockey teams. Teams will play against other independent schools. See the sidebar for more details.
If you are interested in helping to coach any of these teams, contact our Sports Initiative Coordinator, Coach Myra.

Shabbat Shalom,
Morah Cheryl
