Dear Mirowitz Community,
When the Mirowitz Board of Trustees announced that Justin Tesser will become our next Head of School on July 1, 2027, what I felt was joy. I felt something beyond relief. I felt genuine joy.
I first met Justin last spring. He was not a candidate then, and no search was on his mind or mine. We were two educators talking about children, learning, and community. Still, I left that conversation quietly thinking he would make a fine leader for this school. His affect was warm and unhurried, and his poise was evident. His intellect was sharp and generous. Above all, his integrity stood out, the kind you sense before anyone has to vouch for it.
Over these past months, I have come to appreciate even more deeply what makes Mirowitz special: children who are known and loved, teachers whose dedication reaches far beyond their classrooms, families who believe passionately in Jewish education, and a community committed to learning, belonging, and tikkun olam—repairing the world.
Our work is not finished. Indeed, the work of a good school is never finished. Between now and June, I will continue to lead with the same commitment to our students, faculty, families, and the long-term strength of this remarkable institution. Justin and I will work together to ensure that his arrival on July 1, 2027, represents not simply a change in leadership, but a thoughtful continuation of our shared aspirations.
Between now and June, my commitment is the same as it has always been: to serve our students, faculty, and families fully, and to make sure Justin inherits a school that is strong, joyful, and ready for its next chapter. A good handoff is its own kind of mitzvah.
I am grateful to Board President Joe Pereles and to search co-chairs Patty Croughan and Lauren Cohen for the care and diligence they brought to this process. Their work reflects the love this community holds for its school.
And to Justin, I offer a heartfelt mazal tov. May you lead with wisdom, courage, humility, and joy. I look forward to placing this extraordinary school in your capable hands.
Mirowitz belongs to all of us, including every family, congregation, and Jewish institution in St. Louis that has ever cheered it on. Please join me in welcoming Justin. The best is ahead.
Shabbat Shalom!
Brian Thomas
Interim Head of School
