Weekly Torah Reading

At Mirowitz, leading the Torah service is a rite of passage that begins in fourth grade. By that time, students can adequately decipher ancient texts, apply trope (chanting notations), contemplate possible interpretations and serve as a spiritual leader.

Torah is read each Thursday. In the middle school, the students lead the service with little assistance. In the elementary school, a fourth or fifth grade student chants Torah and engages the entire school in a discussion. Every student is encouraged to think deeply, to ask questions and to consider how the stories of their heritage can be a guide for ethical living.
