Today we woke up early and started the morning with tefilah. We were able to choose what type of tefilah we wanted to experience. We could visit Orthodox, Reform, and Conservative synagogues, and I chose to go to the Conservative synagogue. It was really cool to pray and sit next to complete strangers. I really felt how prayers can spark a connection with God, and a sense of community with the people around me.
We then went on a theatrical tour of the Nachlaot neighborhood. Our guide, Ariel, made this tour so much fun! He was absolutely hilarious and the way he could hop into different characters’ shoes so seamlessly made it so that my friends and I could truly experience what we were learning about. To close out our day, we spent time on Ben Yehuda Street. It was great to go shopping and eat delicious food! I got to see my dad, and we got ice cream together! Believe it or not, you can actually learn a lot from shopping. I have learned how to bargain and compromise, while also using my Hebrew skills to communicate. Overall, this day was amazing and I can’t wait to see what the rest of the trip will be like!
